      In Memorium- Another pioneer has passed away. On the night of Feb. 2d,
      Mrs. Hannah Bassett, full of years and the glory of honorable old age, passed
      quietly to rest. Mrs. Bassett was born in Indiana, Sept. 10, 1810, her maiden
      name was Wilson. She was married to Bernard H. Bassett in 1842; in 1847
      removed to Illinois, and three years later braved the hardships and dangers of
      an overland trip to California, landing in the fall of '51 at Elmira, where
      for forty years her life has been pleasantly and consistently employed, and
      where amidst dear and hallowed scenes it has triumphantly closed. In 1842 she
      made a confession of faith in Christ, and it is due to her personal and
      Christian worth to say, that she was a devoted wife, a kind and affectionate
      mother, and a meek, humble and consistent Christian. She leaves ten children
      and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. In her death the family
      circle has been deprived of one whose place can never be filled, society has
      lost a valuable member and the church a mother in Israel.

      our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty nine, the following Marriage
      License was issued by me, Hiram Alldredge, Clerk of the Shelby Circuit Court,
      State of Indiana, Shelby County of the state of Indiana, to any person
      empowered by Law to solemnize Marriages, greeting. Know ye that License is
      hereby granted to Bernard Bassett and Hannah Wilson to be joined together as
      Husband and wife in the Honourable Bonds of Matrimony according to Law.
      Witness Hiram Alldredge, Clerk of our Shelby Circuit Court, and the seal of
      our Said Court hereunto affixed at Shelbyville the 30th day of December 1829.
