- In 1869 we find a sale from Simon Prouty to John Stahl "that we Simon Prouty and Lydia Prouty of Auglaize County" $500 St. Mary's lot #34 of North Addition to Town and dated 6 Apr 1869. (Auglaize County Ohio deed record vol 27 pg 320.
Found at the Old Town Cemetery in Mercer County, Ohio is death of a Prouty, died 15 Jan 1865, aged 25y 2m 25d. (First name could not be read on stone.)

OBITUARY, GRANVILLE TIMES, Granville, Licking County, Oh
INCOMPLETE
Born Washington Co., NY June 7, 1798. Leaving apprenticeship, a
following a 3 1/2 day walk to enlist, entered War of 1812 under name of his
cousin, Cyrus, who had been impressed by the British on the high seas and was
never heard of afterward. Sword wound suffered at Lundy's Lane, as he charged
the entrenchments of the enemy. Afterwards completed his apprenticeship as a
tanner, and came to Knox County OH in 1820. Married Lydia Bassett in Licking
Co., 1821. One of the California forty-niners. Died Oct. 2, 1885 Davenport,
Iowa leaving widow Lydia Bassett Prouty, age 85. Both were residing with
daughter, Mrs. Smith, on Fulton Avenue, Davenport, Iowa. (It only lists 2
surviving children, the daughter and the husband of Mrs. Prouty of Granville,
Mrs. Anna Prouty, died 2 Apr 1886, husband not listed as a survivor, she was
thus a widow. So between Oct of 1885 and April of 1886, the other surviving
son of Simon Prouty and Lydia died in Granville, leaving 3 sons and 2
daughters).
