  Notes	Jonathan fought in the Revolutionary War when he was 17. He served as a private in Colonel Freeman's regiment from Massachusetts, probably during the final battles of the war. It is thought that he was wounded and came to the Valley of the Vapors in 1828 for treatment of his wounds. He established a farm on Gulpha Creek where he lived until his death. It is thought that he died from malaria. Records show a gift of land and slaves to Lydia from Jonathan just before he died. The record reads,"deed of gift and conveyance from Jonathan Bassett, being low in bodily health but in full enjoyment of mental faculties, to HIS BELOVED AND DUTIFUL DAUGHTER, LYDIA BELDING." This land he gave Lydia was land he had purchased from Ludovicus Belding on 11 Jul 1832.
