Died at his home Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27. A funeral Mass was said at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Tomahawk, the Rev. Edward Powell officiating. Burial was in Prairie Rapids Cemetery, rural Tomahawk. Mr. Bassett was born May 12, 1891 in La Salle. He married Irene Coleman April 15, 1914, in La Salle. He had lived in the Tomahawk area for 35 years, and owned and operated the Bassett Point Resort on the Willow Flowage. He was a former chairman of the Town of Little Rice, Wis., and also a former Oneida County Board member. Mr. Bassett is survived by three sons, Coleman of Oglesby, Kenneth of Traverse City, Mich., and Robert of Valdez, Alaska; two daughters, Mrs. David (Evelyn) Echols, Chicago, and Mrs. Phil (Gloria) White, Rte. 2, Tomahawk; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
