Bassett Brothers (includes pictures of both brothers)

Today marks a change in the name of our enterprising hardware firm, H.M. Bassett & Co. The Bassetts were first interested in the hardware business when B.S. Bassett went into partnership with George Fletcher, twenty-five years ago. He soon bought Mr. Betcher’s interest and the firm name was changed to B.S. Bassett & Co., and the business carried on by him and his two sons Frank and Byron and grandson Harry until about three years ago. Since then the firm name has been H.M. Bassett & Co., but now the estate has all been settled and the property is owned by Harry M. and Guy F. Bassett and they will be known as the business firm of Bassett Brothers.

They carry a complete line of shelf and heavy hardware, agricultural implements, paints, oils, varnishes, enamel and tinware and everything found in an up-to-date establishment. They are hustling young men, attend strictly to business, are careful buyers and, by selling at very reasonable prices, have increased the business until now it is the best ever and promises to continue along the same lines.

An Important Business Changes Was Made Last Week Saturday
Bassett Brothers East End Grocery A Thing Of the Past
Hub of Uptown Business Will Be Lewis Brothers Store
Buy Stock of Hardware and Groceries
Use Bassett Store for Implement Business

Saturday a deal was closed between Bassett Brothers of the East End Grocery and Hardware whereby G.M. Lewis and his brother Rex Lewis, the latter a former Albany resident, take over the stock of the Bassett firm and will move it to the G.M. Lewis Block where drugs, groceries and shelf hardware will be kept from now on.

The Lewis Brothers have rented the Bassett store building and will use it as headquarters for their farm implement business as well as for storage of surplus stocks.

G.M. Lewis came to Whitesville four years ago and bought the drug and grocery business of the Former estate which was located in the old M.S. & A. L. Chase double store. Later Mr. Lewis bought the block of the Lydia Crandall estate He has enjoyed a fine business which is constantly expanding owing to this agreeable manner of dealing and consistent advertising of his goods.

Rex Lewis has for some seven years been located in Albany where he has held a very lucrative position.

It is with regret that we chronicle the loss of the firm of Bassett Bros. but Guy was unable to resists the splendid opportunity offered him by the concern of Weed & Co., in Rochester, this fall, and Harry’s position as Financial Clerk of the State Senate at Albany made it impossible for him to properly care for the business alone, so the concern has been dissolved.

The people and business interests NEWS in in welcoming the incoming partner of the Lewis firm and we wish and bespeak for them ample success in the new venture.

BASSETT BROTHERS AND THEIR EAST END GROCERY

Harry M. and Guy F. Bassett have been among the village’s most progressive residents and business men for the past twenty years. By their enterprise and liberal use of advertising they enjoyed a splendid business and made for themselves a name that was favorably known far and wide with the result that they both have secured splendid positions in the State’s largest cities. May they continue to enjoy success.
